Niche Inspector News
September 14th, 2007 — adminNiche Inspector is not returning Overture keywords at the moment. This is not directly a problem with Niche Inspector. It is the Overture service that is returning No suggestions for key phrase.
Niche Inspector support are aware of this, so bombarding them with support tickets will not help. I have found Niche Inspector support to be very responsive, so I ask you to be patient. As soon as I hear something, I will let you know.
Niche Inspector still works fine with the alternative database that has been included recently. Just change your Settings - Research Options - Monthly Searches from Overture to Alternate database.
I have been using this setting quite a lot recently. For most keywords and phrases I noticed a larger spread of keywords with, generally, lower demand.
Remember that you are researching comparatives based on historic data. Overture figures that you might have been used to are based on old information of varying degrees of accuracy. You should always try to keep an eye on the big picture when looking at Niche Inspector analysis. Wherever the basic search data comes from there will be inaccuracies, and they do not predict the future.
My advice is to carry on using Niche Inspector with the alternate database. If you are comparing projects that you have developed with Overture data, do not be alarmed if new projects show lower demand. In almost all cases I have looked at, the Overture demand, when significantly higher, always looked a little suspicious to me.
Most important, in my view, is to focus on niches where there are plenty of advertisers paying reasonable rates. If you are committed to what you do, you will get the traffic if it is there. If you need any advice on specific projects, where you don’t understand the difference in demand data between Overture and the alternative database, then send me a message via the Contact Page.
In fact, if you have any problems, opinions or experiences with Niche Inspector that you would like to share with me, I am always happy to get some feedback.
One other point about demand data. As I have said, I do not think that you should get too bogged down in numbers. However, if you want another source of data, you can always try Wordtracker. You can use the Wordtracker Free Keyword Tool, or get even more free data if you Register For Free Wordtracker Trial.
The free data is useful to verify the types of numbers you get from Niche Inspector. If you use the registered version of Wordtracker you can even import the data into Niche Inspector.
